Boys.

They are bound to be the death of me.

Especially one with blue eyes, perfectly Mormon cut hair, and probably the inspiration for the girl’s camp song "Hot Priest".

Why the heck did he have to be the bishop’s son?

Cause here’s the thing. While I’m Mormon, I don’t really belong. I mean, I want to, but I just can’t seem to keep on the straight and narrow. Seriously, look at me. I’m not even supposed to use the name Mormon anymore, but Latter-Day Saint is a mouthful. So I’m sticking to Mormon. Sorry, Prophet.

The bishop knows my past. He knows my problems. There is no freaking way he’s going to let me date his son.

Yet, Nate comes after me anyway. And I fall hard.

But eventually….I will have to tell him about my past.

And I know, he’ll run far, far away from me when I do.

SWEET AND LOVELY FIND THE RIGHT WAY IN THIS BEAUTIFUL STORY

Lauren is going through a dark phase after the humiliation caused by her father. Moving away may be the best decision to start over, but she must choose to continue on the right path and be brave enough to return to church after all her mistakes. When she meets Nate, her whole world changes but then she discovers that he is the bishop's son and her past may get in the way. Lauren must find a way to straighten her life and learn to forgive so she can feel the Spirit again and finally be happy.

Sometimes, the hardest thing is forgiving ourselves.”

I really liked Lauren. Each step in the right direction is hard and requires a lot of courage, but she was changing and growing a little bit more with each page of this book, finding and forgiving herself.

On the other hand, Nate is adorable and such a sweet boy, I loved him so much. He's charming and he became an amazing character. And his friends are great too, each of them is very unique and special, as well as Nate's little brother who is adorable, by the way. I liked both the protagonists and the secondary characters.

The plot of this book was very interesting from the beginning. I had never read about the Later Day Saints -or Mormons- and it filled me with curiosity since I read the synopsis. My interest increased as I progressed with the reading. The subject was fascinating, although I would've liked some extra explanations as I was reading certain concepts.

The romance in this book is beautiful and so special. There are really sweet scenes, and I even found several lovely quotes. There is also a lot of drama, scenes full of tension and emotion. I was hooked with this story from the beginning to the end. It's a really entertaining and addictive reading.

Another thing that I liked was the way the story is told, as if it were a video with Lauren narrating her life. It was a very original element introduced by the author and I loved it, she immersed me even more in the story.

“Then let me enlighten you. The second you waltzed into my life, I knew there was something special about you. I couldn’t keep my eyes or my thoughts off of you. The more I get to know you, the more I like you. I’m so unbelievably torn because I’ll be leaving in a few months, and I didn’t want to get involved with anyone. But I can’t help myself. I like you. A lot.”

I really liked this book, it's a very sweet story, and it left me wanting more.
And also, that cover is gorgeous.

Review: The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell

THE LAST MAGICIAN Lisa Maxwell
(The Last Magician #1)

Title: The Last Magician
Author: Lisa Maxwell
Series: The Last Magician #1
Genre: Fantasy, Science Fiction, Young Adult
Format: Paperback
Pages: 498
Publication date: August 10th 2017
Publisher: Simon Pulse

Stop the Magician. Steal the book. Save the future.

In modern-day New York, magic is all but extinct. The remaining few who have an affinity for magic—the Mageus—live in the shadows, hiding who they are. Any Mageus who enters Manhattan becomes trapped by the Brink, a dark energy barrier that confines them to the island. Crossing it means losing their power—and often their lives.

Esta is a talented thief, and she’s been raised to steal magical artifacts from the sinister Order that created the Brink. With her innate ability to manipulate time, Esta can pilfer from the past, collecting these artifacts before the Order even realizes she’s there. And all of Esta’s training has been for one final job: traveling back to 1902 to steal an ancient book containing the secrets of the Order—and the Brink—before the Magician can destroy it and doom the Mageus to a hopeless future.

But Old New York is a dangerous world ruled by ruthless gangs and secret societies, a world where the very air crackles with magic. Nothing is as it seems, including the Magician himself. And for Esta to save her future, she may have to betray everyone in the past.

Personal Opinion:

The world is divided between people who have an affinity with magic, and those who don't. Among the latter, there is the Order, a group dedicated to science and reason who will do anything to trap and stop the Mageus, those who use magic. This rivalry made the story fascinating, making us go deep in a chain of mysteries and secrets.

To stop the Order and destroy the Breach that prevents the Mageus from escaping the city, Esta must go back to the past and stop the Magician to get a book that will change everything.

The subject of this book is so interesting. Time travel, powers... two things that I love. The world created by the author is fascinating, mixing the past and the present with a very good investigation, not only of context but also of physics, chemistry and alchemy.

There are several amazing plot twists, which I honestly didn't expect at all and they took me completely by surprise. Revelations that I never imagined, and I really liked that.

This book has several main characters that are very interesting and particular, as well as their powers. It has several points of view, which I think is great to understand each of them. There is even a great development of the secondary characters.

Esta, being so impulsive and audacious, was one of the characters that I liked the most. Also the Magician, who was gaining my affection little by little. And Dolph, a character that fascinates me since before reading the book.

I liked the interactions between the characters, some full of drama and others with a bit of humor. There is a little of romance in this book and a lot of action, but I think it was the twists and the setting that I liked most about this story.

“They were sitting on opposite sides of the board, playing each other in hopes of gaining the same prize.”

The ending was impressive and left me wanting to read the next book. The Last Magician is a slow pace reading, but I loved it anyway. I hope to read the next book soon.

Review: God of the Sun by Kimberly Loth

GOD OF THE SUN Kimberly Loth
(Stella and Sol #1)

Title: God of the Sun
Author: Kimberly Loth
Series: Stella and Sol #1
Genre: Fantasy, Romance, Young Adult
Format: Digital
Pages: 273
Publication date: February 22nd 2017

She’s a crown princess running for her life. He’s desperately trying to save his kingdom from annihilation. After being enemies for so long, they must depend on one another or risk a war that could kill them all.

Enter a world where some never see the light of day and others cannot fathom the dark of night.

With breathless romance, unexpected betrayal, and a ruthless hidden dictator, this incredible fantasy will leave you begging for more…

Light and darkness collide in a really interesting story

The story begins with a prophecy, one that involves the two kingdoms of this story: one of light and one of darkness. One of the things I liked the most about this book was the setting. The construction of the kingdoms was so interesting, even the people from each of them have features according to their own places. Sol and Stella, both opposed but equally interesting.

Zwaantie is the protagonist and this book is narrated in third person, mainly from her point of view. She is the princess of Sol, who will have to become queen soon. But she prefers a simple life and doesn't want all the responsibilities that comes with the crown. Even less when she begins to have feelings for Phoenix, a slave.

The romance is built slowly and I liked that. Phoenix is a character that I loved, he is nice and friendly, they share really sweet moments and as their relationship is forbidden, that made it exciting.

The book has very complex characters. One of the most mysterious and interesting was The Voice, a being that controlls the law and morale of Sol, who punishes those who do something wrong. From the beginning, it caught my attention and became more and more interesting as the story progressed, as it was turning into a villain. I am completely intrigued by this character and want to know more about it, about its true identity.

Then a prince of Stella shows up, who wins everyone with his charm, including me, although Zwaantie doesn't trust him at all. He really was an interesting character, maybe the one I liked the most and I really want to know him better in the second book.

The plot becomes more and more interesting and complex. The author introduce new elements and characters that I really liked. It made the reading entertaining and provided action and very good twists and turns, which were totally unexpected.

It also had fun parts and other ones really sweet. It was an addictive read, it had me hooked from the first to the last page. I loved how the author writes, with a fast pace and a delicate narrative.

"Millions of tiny dots in the dark, dark sky. They make me feel like anything is possible."

It was a really special book and I loved it. It left me wanting to continue the story because I really liked this book, it is my favorite so far by the author.
